Another year come and gone in what seems like a blur, but as Joni and I look back on 2015, we see a thousand blessings to be thankful for. God has directed our feet down paths we could not have anticipated a year ago, but we've seen amazing things as a result. In 2015 we were temporary transients (thanks Darin and Meagan!), intercontinental travellers, church planters, and job movers.
After a lot of prayer, 2015 started with Joni stepping out of her classroom at Second Baptist School and taking a part-time position at Westminster Methodist Church, where she cared for 2-3 year olds. Later in the fall, she moved to The Faye School, where she is working with pre-K students and absolutely loving it. Michael continued to build his creative media company, Wide Lens Creative, and had a great year of growth.
In the Spring, our apartment complex changed management and our CARES program there was cancelled. Knowing that we wanted to move to the Galleria area to be near our new church, we requested to be placed in that area through CARES, but had no luck. With the crazy idea that we would split town over the summer and go on a cross-country road trip, we decided to be temporary transients to give CARES more time to find a new community for us to continue our ministry in. Of course, our plans were foiled in early May when we were asked to step in and backfill for an outgoing team at Park At Voss.
The community here, where we serve alongside a second CARES team, is a great mix of old, young, and international families. We have a large number of Indian and Hindu neighbors, and we've enjoyed getting to know them and learning more about their culture and religion as we try to love them in Christ and share his Word with them.
A huge part of our year was being part of a new church plant going out from our church, Sojourn Community Church in the Houston Heights. This third Sojourn plant will be officially meeting in Briargrove Elementary School beginning in January, but we've spend most of the year meeting Sunday and Wednesday evenings to prayer and growth at our pastors home as we all seek to create a firm foundation for this church. We're so excited to open our doors to guests and new members and would love, if you're local, to have to come see what we're all about!
Of course, no year for us can go without travel. This year we made our way through Colorado, DC, NYC, and made a very long distance flight to Bali, Indonesia. Each was it's own adventure, and we took lots of pictures that you can see below!
Our blessings come to us in many forms, but most of all they coe through the people in our lives. We're so thankful for our friends and family this Christmas season, and we hope you continue to be a part of our lives in 2016 (we think it's going to be the biggest one yet)!
